Overall, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), 18% of adults and 25% of adolescents aged 13 to 18 live with anxiety. In addition, 4% of adults and 6% of teens have a diagnosable anxiety disorder. Different therapeutic techniques have been developed to treat anxiety and have evolved over time from early psychoanalytic approaches to the newest cognitive-behavioral therapies. If you are living with anxiety, therapy can be an effective treatment that may help relieve your symptoms in a short period of time. However, that does not mean that therapy does not involve work on your part; most therapy involves homework and requires you to learn how to apply what you learn on your own once you complete the course of treatment. Types of Anxiety Disorders Treated by Therapy A variety of different types of anxiety disorder are treated with therapeutic approaches. Some of these include the following: panic disorderobsessive-compulsive disorderphobiasgeneralized anxiety disordersocial anxiety disorderpost-traumatic stress disorder Regardless of the specific disorder, the underlying causes often follow similar patterns. People with anxiety tend to react to unpleasant thoughts, feelings, and situations in a more extreme way and may try to manage those reactions by avoiding triggers. Unfortunately, this type of avoidance only serves to reinforce fears and worries. Most modern types of therapy address negative thinking and avoidance to help you manage anxiety. Types of Anxiety Therapy The goal of all types of therapy for anxiety is to help you learn how to overcome your fear and calm your emotional reactions. This is true whether you are taking part in individual or group therapy; in fact, most of the types of therapy listed below may take part one-on-one or in a group setting. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been shown to be effective for a variety of types of anxiety disorders including panic disorder, phobias, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. The premise of CBT is that examining your negative thoughts and perceptions to identify distortions can be helpful to manage anxiety. Based on this premise, what you think about situations is more important in determining how you feel than what actually happens in those situations. In other words, it is your thoughts that determine how you feel. Negative thoughts make fear and anxiety worse. So, the goal of CBT is to correct irrational negative thoughts and replace them with more positive, realistic perceptions. This process is best done with a therapist because it can be hard to identify your own irrational thoughts. A therapist can ask, What were you thinking before you started feeling anxious? This will often help you to start seeing your thoughts in terms of the patterns that they follow. For example, you might do a lot of black-and-white thinking, where you assume that things are all bad or all good. Instead, you would replace those thoughts with the more realistic perception that there are many shades of grey in between. It takes practice to use CBT techniques, but once you start to recognize your anxiety and your triggers, you can learn to apply the coping skills that you learn in CBT to manage fear, panic, and worry. How CBT Is Used to Treat Anxiety Exposure Therapy Exposure therapy is often a component of CBT or used alongside it. The premise behind exposure therapy is that avoiding situations that cause you anxiety makes your fear grow stronger. In exposure therapy, you are asked to either imagine doing something you fear or to actually approach and do it in real life. This is often done according to a technique known as systematic desensitization, in which you start with the least anxiety-provoking action and work your way up from there. Following this step-by-step approach of learning how to induce relaxation, creating a list of feared situations, and working through the list gradually is the heart of exposure therapy. This gradual process of alternating approaching what you fear with relaxation helps to pair the two in your mind and makes it easier the next time you have to go do what you fear. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a technique that was developed by Marsha Linehan in the 1980s to help people manage borderline personality disorder (BPD). People with BPD have problems managing their emotional reactions, particularly in relationships with other people. Their emotional reactions happen very quickly and it takes them a long time to return to their normal level of arousal. While not specifically for anxiety disorders, DBT may help to manage anxiety as it teaches coping skills that involve building on your strengths, identifying unhelpful thoughts, practicing self-soothing, emotion regulation, and mindfulness, and managing post-traumatic stress. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is another form of therapy that has been shown effective for a variety of anxiety disorders. ACT involves identifying your values in life and then acting in ways that match your values. This form of therapy also teaches mindfulness using metaphors. For example, one metaphor that is described is to imagine that your negative thoughts are passengers on a bus you are driving. The passengers may say things you dont like, but you are the one driving the bus and you dont have to listen to them. A Mindfulness Meditation Exercise for Anxiety Art Therapy Art therapy is a newer form of therapy for anxiety that requires more research to confirm its effectiveness. However, there is some evidence of the effectiveness of ACT for reducing anxiety. Art therapy involves either using art to express and process emotion or using art to practice mindfulness and relaxation. Family Therapy Family therapy can be helpful if one person in your family has an anxiety disorder that has affected the lives of other family members. Those supporting family members can learn how best to be of help. Often, caregivers can feel burdened as well, so family therapy can help every individual who is affected. Psychoanalytic Therapy This type of therapy involves examining your past experiences to determine how they influence your current anxiety. During psychoanalytic therapy, your therapist would help you to identify and process these experiences to reduce your current anxiety. Interpersonal Therapy Interpersonal therapy may be used if your anxiety relates primarily to your relations with other people, such as is the case with social anxiety disorder. Bibliotherapy Bibliotherapy uses literature to help you improve your life by providing information, support, and guidance in the form of reading activities via books and stories. How to Make Therapy Work for You Its true that you will often feel worse before you feel better when trying to make a change, and being in therapy for anxiety is no exception. However, if you are persistent, you should see improvement. In that vein, that are certain things you can do to make therapy work for you: practice self-care to support therapymake sure you have a social support systempractice healthy lifestyle choicesreduce stress in your life that makes your anxiety worse In this way, you can see that putting in an effort and being present throughout the therapy process will have the biggest impact on how well it works for you. What to Know About a Therapy Treatment Plan When to See a Therapist for Anxiety If you are experiencing anxiety that is interfering with different areas of your life, it is important to speak to a doctor. Only a medical or mental health professional can assess your symptoms to determine if they warrant a diagnosis and treatment. While worry is transient, clinical anxiety is a problem not likely to go away on its own. A Word From Verywell Anxiety therapy is not one specific technique. Instead, it refers to all forms of therapy that are used to treat anxiety. The Role Of Motherhood In Infant Joy By William Blake
The role of mothers and their sacrifice has been a valued part of society for millennia. Although women now hold a much more advantageous place in society as members of the workforce, women are still encouraged to pursue more domestic goals as wives and mothers as well. It would be difficult to find an unmarried middle-aged woman who hasnââ¬â¢t been asked when she will finally snag a husband or a young couple that hasnââ¬â¢t fended off nosey relatives wondering when theyââ¬â¢ll decide to expand their family. However, while society views child birth and motherhood as one of the greatest miracles of life, this sentimental perception has been challenged by many women and writers throughout history, including William Blake. Throughout his works Blakeâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The mother responds with equal happiness, calling her baby ââ¬Å"Pretty Joyâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Sweet Joyâ⬠and crying ââ¬Å"Sweet Joy befall thee!â⬠(Blake, 26). However, while the mother and child in the poem both appear deeply bonded by their overwhelming happiness, the conversation between the mother and her child can also be read as a more controlling and forceful interaction. At first it appears that the mother and the child in the poem are conversing back and forth, but it is more likely that the mother is actually speaking for the child and imagines a back and forth conversation in her mind. When read this way, the baby has no agency in deciding their name and is unable to describe his or her true emotions to the mother. It could be that the child isnââ¬â¢t happy at all but is feeling tired, grumpy, or hungry instead, and by speaking for her child the mother imposes happiness on her child rather than simply blessing it with more joy. In fact, the mother seems much more enamored with the idea of joy than with the babyââ¬â¢s true emotions when she exclaims, ââ¬Å"Sweet joy befall thee! / Pretty joy! /Sweet joy but two days old, / Sweet joy I call thee; / Tho u dost smile. / I sing the while/ Sweet joy befall theeâ⬠(Blake 26). The word ââ¬Å"joyâ⬠appears on almost every line of the stanza and the babyââ¬â¢s voice drops out of the poemShow MoreRelated A Lacanian Study of Motherhood in the Poems of William Wordsworth1990 Words à |à 8 Pages William Wordsworth was a prolific poet of the Romantic movement, perhaps best known for publishing Lyrical Ballads with friend and fellow poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1798. These poems were written in what Wordsworth described as a ââ¬Ëcommon tongueââ¬â¢ with a focus on themes often found in Romantic poetry, such as the pastoral, the mythical, fragmentation, heroism and satire. In Lyrical Ballads one recurring subject almost unique to Wordsworth in its passion and persistence is that of motherhood

A Motherââ¬â¢s Love to a child Free Essays
As a mother I have cared and tried to push my sonâ⬠s education so that he can succeed in his life. I came from a large family in Brazil. I wasnâ⬠t the only child; I learned to share, how provide for myself, and for my 3 sisters, and 3 brothers. We will write a custom essay sample on A Motherââ¬â¢s Love to a child or any similar topic only for you Order Now My father was a serious man; he had a job, and still came home to provide for all of us. During dinnertime he insisted that everyone had to be home and had to sit down at the table and talk about their day. This was a must in my family too. The reason why he had that rule was because he was a religious man, and meals should be shared with the family as well as conversations. No one had any choice of not sitting at the table, unless we didnâ⬠t want to eat. When I had a child, I waited for the right time to have one. I didnâ⬠t want to rush into motherhood responsibility until I had everything in order to support my child. My husband had to find a job, and so did I. We had a house, a car, and jobs to support my child; we were ready. When my child was born, I chose to go to the United States of America, so that my child can have a better life. In Brazil, the education is not challenging, and not recognized in other parts of the world as a higher education. For him to have a better education, a better standard of living, and for him to have what we never had, we had to give up our lives in Brazil. As the years went by I was always there for my son. Through my eyes as he grows older, he is still the little boy that I held in my arms for the first time. In his teenage years I have seen him grow further away from me. Every day when he gets home he goes to his room without talking to me, or saying anything about his day. I guess that is what all kids go through in these years, because of the stage of exploration of new things in life. Like driving, video games, girls, and puberty. I still love my son, and even if he doesnâ⬠t want to talk to me then I guess he has everything in order in his life. He is very intelligent, and I trust that he knows what to do, and do the right thing. I have noticed that he hasnâ⬠t come to me to say if he has had any problems in school. I guess to me he has no problems going on, or maybe he has it in control. I have always said to him every time he comes home, how was your day Miguel? He would always say, it was ok. When I heard that my son was having problems in reading, I was shocked. I couldnâ⬠t believe my bright boy was having such problems. I tried my best to make him study more, and succeed in life. Now it looks like he needs help in reading, and I am going to be there for him. The teacher told me that he had to memorize a book in order to pass the class. I was with him every day when he got home, helping him to study and memorize the story. When the day came for him to tell the story, I was waiting for him at home. When he got home, I looked into his eyes and he said ââ¬Å"Mom, I did it. I passed! â⬠I was so happy, and I knew he could do it. From that day on, I have never doubted my son on what he can do. He is a bright young man, intelligent, respectful, and responsible when it comes to work that is given to him. How to cite A Motherââ¬â¢s Love to a child, Papers

Pucciniââ¬â¢s La Boheme Essay Sample free essay sample
Giacomo Puccini has written a figure of operas. including Turandot. Gianni Schicchi. and Madama Butterfly. La Boheme is said to be ââ¬Å"one of the most successful and enrapturing operas of all time written. â⬠Written in the romantic period. the text and mark interrelatednesss play an of import function in an overall aesthetically and historically delighting opera. In a narrative of love found and love lost. Puccini uses text and mark to make empathy for the characters of La Boheme. Puccini does so peculiarly in the aria Donde lieta usci . Sung by Mimi towards the terminal of Act III. Mimi introduces herself as a dressmaker and neighbour looking for Rudolpho to illume her taper. They shortly develop a romantic relationship which becomes a major secret plan line in the opera. She is enduring of ingestion and her wellness deteriorates as the opera goes on. By the 3rd act. her wellness has taken a major hit. and it has been made clear that she is deceasing. Rudolpho begins to estrange Mimi. shaming green-eyed monster but he shortly reveals that he is afraid to watch Mimi dice. When Mimi overhears this she confronts Rudolpho and sings this aria as a adieu. The aria begins with fiddles. playing the first line of Mimiââ¬â¢s first aria. Mia chiamano Mimi. By this clip in the opera. this has become a subject for Mimi and Rodolphoââ¬â¢s love. She begins singing Donde lieta usci Al tuo grido dââ¬â¢amore. lacerate sola Mimi solitaro nido. which translates to I came merrily to react to your call of love. Mimi returns entirely to her lone nest. The tune in the soprano line rises chromatically. with a spring of a fifth at the terminal of the first phrase. so descends chromatically jumping a fifth to stop on E-flat. This creates a disagreement that reflects Mimiââ¬â¢s unhappiness. This disagreement is besides present in the instrumental parts of this portion of the aria. as the orchestra follows the soprano with homophony. Mimi goes on to explicate that she will be entirely once more to her seamstress work. Although there is a sense of unhappiness in the text. Puccini gives the instrumentality a contrasting capricious staccato arpeggio which mirrors earlier love tunes. This music is returned to demo the longing for the past and lets the audience. if merely for a minute. retrieve the unworried love that Mimi and Rudolpho ab initio shared. Mimi goes on to sing Addio. senza resentment. which translates to farewell. without compunction. Although this may look like a instead sarcastic or acrimonious remark after the uplifting mark in the past two bars. this line is accompanied by two sustained chords. Puccini uses this minimalistic attack to reflect the simpleness of the text itself. Spike Hughes. writer of Famous Puccini Operas. says. ââ¬Å"there is so no resentment. but a great trade of sadnessâ⬠¦the whole scene has a queerly traveling quality of melancholy and nostalgic sorrow that such things can non travel on for of all time. â⬠Although there is no resentment. you sense a great trade of compunction. This phrase gives the sense of a minute of remainder from the silence in the instrumental to the held soprano line. Rudolpho begins to walk off. but Mimi beckons him with an out of topographic point Ascolta. ascolta. or delay. delay and gives instructions of bangles she would wish him to garner. These bangles include a gilded ring and supplication book she has left in a drawer. that she wishes Rudolpho to wrap up and she will direct person to garner them. The mark has a unresolved sense at the beginning of each phrase to demo Mimiââ¬â¢s unhappiness. but in a funny contrast staccato arpeggios occur at the terminal of each phrase one time more reminding all that Mimi and Rudolpho may still hold love for each other underneath the unhappiness. It about acts as a small call to Rudolpho. waving him to remain. Again the mark comes to a minute of remainder. which is used to give a minute for the audience to believe this may be the terminal. Mimi can non go forth things as they are. and all of a sudden remembers something that is another reminder of their early love. Mimi mentions the pink bonnet that Rudolpho had bought her on the dark they met. singing. Badaâ⬠¦ sotto forty-nine guanciale cââ¬â¢e La cuffietta Rosa. Carefulâ⬠¦ she says in a really soft falling spring. the phrase continues softly and sweetly as if singing excessively aloud would interrupt the enchantment of their love. In a dramatic contrast of pitch and moral force. she sings Se vuoi. se vuoi. se vuoi. serbarla a ricordo dââ¬â¢amor! This translates to If you wish. if you wish. if you wish maintain it in memory of our love! The repeat of Se vuoi. suggests that this is a really of import item and although it is merely an offer. it seems as though she is imploring Rudolpho to take the bonnet. In truth. it has nil to make with the bonnet. but all to make with Mimi non desiring him to go forth no affair if she says adieu. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦it is a c haracteristic remark on Real Life made with a touch of mastermind which makes the terminal of this 3rd act of La Boheme on of the most unashamedly sentimental and overwhelmingly capturing minutes in all opera. â⬠To stop this aria. Mimi repetitions. in one of the most relatable minutes in an opera Addio. addio. senza resentment. This individual lines has a figure of significances behind it from we must state adieu. to delight donââ¬â¢t spell. Clearly Mimi does non truly desire to state adieu to Rudolpho which makes it highly easy to associate to. ââ¬Å"To anybody who has of all time been in love Puccini has set the whole perplexing concern to music in the last few pages of his 3rd act. â⬠The music besides reflects this province of assorted emotion. Within the short phrase. there are two interruptions in the music. and a big intermission. Each a minute of contemplation for Mimi. Rudolpho and the audience to recognize that this adieu is in fact with compunction and shows that it is highly hard for Mimi to state. This aria is a bosom interrupting contemplation on how hard it is to state adieu when in love. Not merely is the text easy to associate to. but it is set to a beautiful mark that reflects the text and the emotions of the characters to give a clear. purpose based reading of Mimiââ¬â¢s farewell in the 3rd act of Pucciniââ¬â¢s La Boheme which all can place with. An Argument against Gun Control
An Argument against Gun Control Introduction One of the most valued liberties by the American people is their right to bear arms; a right enshrined in the Second Amendment. This right, which was included in the bill of rights in 1791, has continued to be upheld by successive governments up to today.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on An Argument against Gun Control specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More However, this right has come under heavy criticism in recent years because of the numerous incidents of gun related violenceââ¬â¢s in the country. The destruction caused by firearms in school shootings and the public at large has enraged many and led to calls for tighter gun control measures. The government has responded to this by imposing gun regulation, a move that has greatly angered gun control opponents. This paper will argue that the US government does not have any right to control guns and as such, it should respect the second amendment and stop t aking up measures to impose gun control on its citizens. Why Gun Control Should Be Abolished Gun control is an infringement upon the basic rights of the Americans to possess firearms. This right is explicitly protected by the Second Amendment, which states, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed (Barnett 265). By trying to impose gun control measures in the country, the government is going against the constitution. Considering that the government is required to uphold the constitution at all times, gun control measures are essentially unlawful. Advocates of gun control argue that the Second Amendment cannot be used to justify an individuals right to own firearms since this right was conditioned on service in an organized militia. This advocates state that the individualââ¬â¢s right to bear arms was tied to a military context and citizens were only empowered to have guns in readiness to serve when called to duty. Legal scholars refute this claim by st ating that the Second Amendment protected the right of the individual to possess firearms. Barnett states that even at the time of the making of the Second Amendment, the term bear arms did not have an exclusively military connotation; the term was also used to connote purely private use of arms (244). Therefore, the right of individuals to have fire guns in the present era is still protected by the US constitution. The control of bullets or even the ban of assault rifles will not prevent murderous people from engaging in killing. Domenech observes that most of the calls for stricter gun control measures come following tragic incidents like the mass killing of students in school by gun wielding individuals (25). Gun control proponents use tragedies of mass murders such as the Sandy Hook incident to make a case for further restrictions on the gun-owning rights of American citizens.Advertising Looking for essay on government? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This is in spite of the fact that there is no research data supporting the theory that gun possession increases the likelihood of mass murders taking place. Stricter gun control legislation will not prevent sad incidents like the Sandy Hook case which robbed 20 children and six adults of their lives since, as Domenech explains, no laws can make the murderously insane sane or remove their ability to destroy innocent lives (25). The government should try to identify the reasons for such incidents and take measures to avoid them from occurring in future. Blaming gun possession for action of deranged murderous is neglectful and it will only leave the public vulnerable to such attacks in the future. The ability of an individual to protect himself by having guns is reduced by having gun controls measures. Opponents of gun ownership hope to make it impossible for citizens to buy and have guns for self-protection. Most people invest in firearms so as to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. Domenech reveals that most handgun sales in the US are made to individuals who are interested in defending their homes (27). Strict gun control legislations will prevent many people from being able to acquire guns for this defensive purpose. It can be expected that the crime rates in the country will increase if individuals are barred from having guns. This is because guns have a deterrence effect on criminals who are discouraged from attacking homes where the owner has a gun. If criminals are not worried about being confronted by lethal legal weaponry by the person they intend to rob, crime rates will rise. Proponents of gun control argue that individuals with firearms still are attacked and even murdered by criminals. While this is true, it should not be used as the basis for denying people a right to protect themselves and increase their chances of fighting off criminals. The government should therefore stop all gun control since thes e measures have a negative impact on the safety of the citizens. Gun control will amount to an intrusion into the private lives of individuals by the government. As it is, the US has a gun culture that stretches back to centuries. This culture is connected to ideals such as individuality and liberty due to the deep relationships that guns have with the war for independence, which took place from 1775 to 1782 (Wolpert and Gimpel 244). Gun restrictions ignore the fact that guns have many legitimate users such as sporting and hunting. By imposing these laws, individuals are denied the right to enjoy their freedom to bear arms. Wolpert and Gimpel declare that by implementing gun control measures, the government is using coercive power to directly shape individual conduct (241). In a country that prides itself for having liberties for all its citizens, this government action should not be tolerated. The government should respect the privacy of its citizens and allow them to have firearms if they want to.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on An Argument against Gun Control specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Conclusion This paper set out to argue that gun control is an infringement upon the most basic of rights or American citizens and the government should not be empowered to control guns. The paper began by nothing that gun control measures are a violation of the constitutional rights of the American citizens. While these measures are mostly demanded to try to reduce incidents of gun related violence, research indicates that possession of guns by citizens does not reduce violence since people who intend to commit murder will still find a way to engage in these acts. Gun control also prevents people from engaging in legitimate personal activity such as hunting and protecting themselves form assailants. By stopping its attempts at gun control, the government will not only be upholding the constitutional rig hts of its citizens but it will also ensure that the citizens are able to enjoy the benefits that firearms bring to the individual and the society at large. The Little Theatre Accounting Flexible Budget Analysis Essay Example
The Little Theatre Accounting Flexible Budget Analysis Essay Example The Little Theatre Accounting Flexible Budget Analysis Paper The Little Theatre Accounting Flexible Budget Analysis Paper The Little Theatre Case 9. 26 Case 9. 26 After the beginning of the year, the board of directors of the theater authorized expanding the theaterââ¬â¢s program to seven productions and a total of 168 performances. Not surprisingly, actual costs were considerably higher than the costs from the planning budget. Grants from donors and ticket sales were also higher. After completing the analysis for the Little Theatre we found that several items could be implemented to have an accurate cost model in the future. First, we prepared a flexible budget for the Little Theatre based on the actual activity of the year. We found that there were a number of cost items such as wages, scenery items, and administrative expenses that were under estimated compared to the original anticipated budget. We also found that there were items such as the theater hall rental and the cost of the printed programs that cost less than the budgeted items. Secondly, we prepared a Cost Budget Performance Report for the year that reflected the breakeven point. We have identified the price and the number of tickets we have to sell in order to cover the cost of the number of productions and the number of performances. The breakeven point was based on the actual cost of each expense. The question was asked, ââ¬Å"If you were on the board of directors of the theater, would you be pleased with how well costs were controlled during the year why or why not? â⬠We were not totally satisfied with the way costs were controlled during the year because the costs below were higher than we anticipated. Wages Costumes Publicity Administrative Expenses The market may be the reason for the expenses being higher than we forecasted. For example, the theatre may not be able to pay a lower wage to the actors. In the future in order to have an accurate cost model we may improve on expenses such as costumes. We may submit bids to other vendors to see if we can lower costs. Finally, the cost formulas provided figures for the average cost per production and average cost per performance. We wanted to find out how accurate these figures would be for predicting the cost of a new production or of an additional performance of a particular production. Our analysis revealed that if the Little Theatre did six productions and one hundred and eight performances, the total cost would be $514,921 and the number of tickets that would need to be sold would be 10,298 at a price of $50. 00. We also found that the cost to produce seven productions and one hundred and sixty eight performances would be $726,900. In addition, the number of tickets that would need to be sold in order to cover this cost would be 14,438 at a price of $50. 00. Over all we project the Little Theatre will be successful if they continue to master the flex budget model.
